PEGASUS IMAGING AND TERAMEDICA PARTNER TO PORT PICTOOLS IMAGE COMPRESSION TO IBM AIX PLATFORM

TAMPA, FL, November 13, 2003 - Pegasus Imaging Corporation and TeraMEDICA, Inc. have partnered to optimize PICTools image compression technology for the IBM AIX operating system. The PICTools software development kits (SDKs) contain low-level C programming libraries for image compression including JPEG 2000, lossless JPEG, and lossy JPEG. TeraMEDICA is expanding its offerings to deliver the TeraMEDICA Intelligent Image Manager (TI2m) on the AIX platform.

The two companies initially partnered in 2001 when TeraMEDICA began licensing Pegasus Imaging's lossless JPEG, lossy JPEG, and later JPEG 2000 image compression and decompression for the Solaris platform. Recent customer demand warranted a strategic decision for Pegasus Imaging to port all three compression technologies to the IBM AIX platform.

"We're pleased we were able to expand our relationship with TeraMEDICA and continue to be a trusted development partner when the opportunity presented itself," says Will Clonts, medical business development manager at Pegasus Imaging. "We believe TeraMEDICA is making a strategic move towards a platform that will continue to gain in market share, and offers increased advantages in the areas of scalability and security."

PICTools compression is used in many of the most advanced medical imaging applications deployed today (see www.pegasusimaging.com/medclients.htm). Pegasus Imaging optimizes PICTools technology for performance in specific environments, achieving maximum code speed through the use of assembly programming and processor specific optimizations. PICTools has been optimized for several chip instruction sets, including Intel MMX, PIII, PIV, and now IBM PowerPC. PICTools is available to developers creating products on 32-bit Windows and Solaris operating systems, among many others. The underlying architecture of PICTools allows desired imaging functionality to be efficiently ported to any requested operating system with a common interface and operating convention.

"TeraMEDICA is pleased to partner with Pegasus Imaging for compression services on our high performance IBM AIX enterprise image management software product. The PICTools compression libraries deliver the reliability, flexibility and features needed to perform effectively to the exacting standards required in medical image management," says Paul Schmelzer TeraMEDICA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

TeraMEDICA Intelligent Image Manager (TI2m) offers hospital systems massive scalability in server, storage capacity and parallel application services ranging from PC class configurations to multi-processor arrays of enterprise scale servers configured to hundreds of terabytes of working storage. The architecture provides a solution to today's requirements and an orderly path to accommodate volume growth.

TI2m handles the image data storage and distribution requirements of multi-department, multi-facility health care systems generating tens of terabytes of image data annually. The TI2m core architecture has been benchmarked to match user requirements ranging from 100,000 imaging procedures per year to over 6 million procedures per year. About TeraMEDICA
TeraMEDICA is developing a new generation of enterprise software that manages the storage and distribution of digital medical images across healthcare or hospital systems. The software gathers images from imaging devices, stores them, and distributes them to the point of patient care. The technology allows healthcare providers to view diagnostic images digitally, thus reducing or eliminating dependency on costly, inefficient film environments while providing physicians with virtual access to image data. TeraMEDICA software uses an advanced enterprise scale database and 'intelligent,' or rules-based business logic to deliver fast, efficient image management at a lower cost.

The company was incorporated in 2001 as a spin-off company from the Mayo Foundation and the Mayo Clinic's Radiology Informatics Laboratory in Rochester, MN. Corporate offices are located at 10400 Innovation Drive, Suite 200, Milwaukee, WI USA 53226. The company can be reached by phone at 414.908.7712, and on the Internet at www.teramedica.com.
