| Streaming Image Optimization |
| Pegasus Imaging has developed Server Image Reformatting technology to efficiently stream images to appliances in limited-bandwidth conditions. This compression technology optimizes GIF and JPEG images for extremely fast transport in limited-resource and wireless environments. Developers can generate optimized images tailored to devices such as handheld computers, PDA's, set-top boxes, and smart phones. This technology can be deployed via common portal sites ("proxy servers") and supports several different operating systems. Through Server Image Reformatting, Pegasus utilizes a streaming method that minimizes the server memory usage and maximizes observed throughput to the client. A combination of code speed and streaming processing combine to achieve optimal image throughput rates. For each operation, the emphasis is placed on delivering the most desirable output as soon as possible in the overall process. SIR provides the ability to specify preferred target image quality/data size for both GIF and JPEG data. JPEG data is optimized using Pegasus' unique streaming optimization technology that avoids "generational-loss" artifacts. GIF images, both single frame and animated, are optimized using color reduction techniques. Pegasus Imaging's video-speed color reduction and compression code play a critical part in this GIF optimization process.
