JBIG2 IMAGE COMPRESSION TECHNOLOGY NOW OFFERED BY PEGASUS IMAGING

Document imaging compression format now supported through low-level PICTools™ JBIG2 SDK

TAMPA, FL, July 22, 2004 - Pegasus Imaging Corporation, the world leader in commercial compression offerings, today delivers PICTools JBIG2. This Software Development Kit (SDK) provides JBIG2 compression and decompression technology as well as the ability to convert to and from JPEG, CCITT G3/G4 and PDF image-only formats. JBIG2 provides higher compression ratios for lossy and lossless compression of binary (black and white) images.

“JBIG2 represents the state-of-the-art in efficient bilevel image compression. It provides a means for embedding scanned or computer-generated pages of text or line-art into PDF documents at a fraction of their original size,” says Stephen Martucci, scientist at Pegasus Imaging. “Pegasus Imaging now offers lossless compression of text pages to sizes far smaller than the industry standard G4 fax compression.”

Pegasus Imaging offers image editing in addition to compression within this toolkit. PICTools JBIG2 includes scale-to-gray, anti-aliasing, high quality image resizing, advanced binarization, half-toning, rich file format support (including GIF, TIFF, BMP, MO:DCA, CALS) and TIFF tag editing capabilities to meet the requirements of a robust document imaging application.

PICTools JBIG2 has been developed by Pegasus Imaging's team of research scientists who specialize in imaging and compression technologies. The current release is for the Windows platform, however PICTools technologies can be ported to any operating system.

Please visit the Pegasus Imaging website at www.pegasusimaging.com/compression.htm for more information regarding advanced compression technology offerings. E-mail sales@jpg.com for more information.
