JPEG 2000 ADD ON TO IMAGXPRESS™ RELEASED BY PEGASUS IMAGING CORPORATION

TAMPA, FL, January 15, 2002 – Pegasus Imaging Corporation, a leader in digital imaging technology, today released its JPEG 2000 technology as an add on to ImagXpress™, its high performance imaging software development toolkit.

ImagXpress™, a COM/ActiveX component, has over 80 image processing functions and support for over 30 file formats. It includes advanced imaging features such as high performance deskew and despeckle, multiple page TIFF (including compacting of multiple page files), TIFF tag editing, and Wang TIFF annotation compatibility. ImagXpress™ includes TWAIN scanner support, video frame capture, advanced printing support, and fully-programmable annotations.

The JPEG 2000 Add On for ImagXpress offers developers the ability to create and view JPEG 2000 images within the ImagXpress toolkit. This new standard, based on advanced wavelet technology, will allow users to compress images to smaller file sizes and with better quality than baseline JPEG. They are also able to set the target compression size. It supports 8-bit and 24-bit images, multiple planes, DIB format, lossless and lossy settings, the ability to influence the progression order, and streaming mode JPEG 2000 to progressively view data. JPEG 2000 can now easily be added to Internet Explorer. Pegasus Imaging's JPEG 2000 was built with careful adherence to JPEG 2000 standards, and also complies with the new DICOM standard in the medical industry.

“Our scientists have been optimizing this JPEG 2000 code for speed and quality for over a year now, says Jack Berlin, President of Pegasus Imaging Corporation. “We will continue to optimize our JPEG 2000 wavelet compression as we have our baseline JPEG compression for the last 10 years. Our customers rely on us for support and reliability, and they can be assured they will continue to receive that support with JPEG 2000.”
