ImagXpress v8 is offered in four editions and now shipped with the following controls:

• Photo – includes ImagXpress, NotateXpress, TwainPRO, PrintPRO, and ThumbnailXpress
• Document (formerly Professional) – includes ImagXpress, NotateXpress, TwainPRO, PrintPRO, and ThumbnailXpress
• View – includes ImagXpress, NotateXpress, PrintPRO, and ThumbnailXpress
• Standard – includes ImagXpress and TwainPRO

• The ImagXpress, NotateXpress, and ThumbnailXpress .NET components use a newly designed object-oriented interface. These components are fully compliant with .NET 1.0 and above. The documentation for these components is fully integrated with Visual Studio.

ThumbnailXpress has just been released as part of ImagXpress v8. It provides developers with an easy, flexible, memory-friendly way to add thumbnail image display to applications. ThumbnailXpress is delivered as both a .NET component and COM control. It supports a wide range of image formats, delivers quick thumbnail generation and display, and allows the developer to control the look and feel of the thumbnail display. Features include:

• Wide Range of Image Support
  Support all image formats supported by ImagXpress and PDFXpress including: PDF, TIFF, JPEG, GIF, BMP, WBMP, PNG, DCX, DIB, PIC, PBM, PCX, PGM, PPM, TGA, ICO, and RLE. Add On support for JBIG2, JPEG 2000, lossless JPEG, JPEG-LS, and WSQ support is also available.
• Multi-Page Image Support
  Display thumbnails of directories and/or multi-page image files. Filter the contents of directories based on attributes such as file name, extension, date and time or size.
• Rapid Display
  Generate thumbnails asynchronously to provide the fastest display of thumbnail images possible. Cached thumbnail images for quick scrolling and redisplay. Caching support provides options to control the amount of memory used.
• Horizontal or Vertical Scrolling
  Create thumbnails in either vertical or horizontal mode. Only one scroll bar will be active. Scroll bar methods and events are available for creating custom solutions. Set the size of the container for thumbnail images.
• Flexible Captions
  Set thumbnail display options, including: spacing between thumbnails, border width, border color, background color and painting order. The labels displayed with each thumbnail may either be automatically derived from filenames, or may be programmatically controlled. Extensive font formatting is provided.
• Flexible Image File Selection
  Select one or multiple thumbnails using the mouse. Mouse methods and events are available for creating custom actions. Retrieve information about the thumbnail image including its height, width, and current status. Retrieve the name of the original image used to create the thumbnail.

ImagXpress v8 builds on previous technology to offer further enhanced document image processing features, including a subset of Pegasus Imaging’s ScanFix technology. The following capabilities are offered within the ImagXpress Document and Photo Editions:

• “Preserve Dark” Capability
  Preserve the dark pixels of an image when an image is scaled at ratios less than 1:1 (many pixels are averaged for the one displayed). This helps to avoid losing details in fine lines or fine text.
• Improved Binarization Performance
  Binarize images faster. Code speed optimization of the binarization process yields an 8X speed improvement.
• Improved Automatic Deskew
  Automatically detect and remove skew from bitonal images. Detection focuses on the content of the image, such as text and drawings, rather than the border. You can also specify acceptable skew angle, quality, and confidence levels.
• More Accurate Despeckle
  The ImagXpress v8 toolkit includes advanced technology that removes specks from bitonal images, including specification of speck size and reporting of number of specks removed.
• New Line Removal
  Remove lines of defined size, thickness, and other specifications, from bitonal images. Report the number of lines removed.
• New Dilate Feature
  Add black pixels to extend objects vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.
• New Erode Feature
  Remove black pixels from objects in bitonal images vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.
• Smooth Zoom
  Enhance charcater clarity, using Smooth Zoom. Replace an image with a new image with width and height doubled and with pixels smoothed.
• New Shear Feature
  Apply rotation of bitonal images, along only the vertical or horizontal axis, by the specified angle in degrees. Allow the user to specify the color with which to pad the image.
• New Blob Removal
  Locate and remove all black blobs (e.g. hole punch marks) in bitonal images, within a defined search area, based on size or density. Detect and report the number of blobs found within the search area.
• New Blank Page Detection
  Automatically determine that a page is blank within a set of bitonal images, by detecting if no objects are found to exceed the minimum object dimension. A border (top margin, left margin, right margin, bottom margin) within which to test for blank page, and minimum confidence, can be specified.
• Better Border Crop
  Remove the black border around a bitonal image.

• Advanced Auto Red Eye Removal
  Automatically detect and correct red eyes in digital photos. The Pegasus algorithm will provide the application with a list of red eye regions and the associated "confidence level" for each region, supporting automated removal based on set criteria.
• Alpha Channel Support
  Support the full color channel within images (e.g. alpha, integration, separation) including alpha channels. Float images and entities (including with transparency) on top of the base image with smooth display.
• Advanced Auto Color Correction and Auto Lightness Correction
  Manually or automatically adjust color and contrast, while maintaining detail in shadow and highlight areas of the image.

• Support for 9 to 16 Bit Gray TIFF
  All editions of ImagXpress v8 now support reading 9 to 16-bit uncompressed grayscale TIFF images.
• Vendor-Specific Camera RAW Formats
  Camera RAW image formats are now supported for reading specific camera vendor file formats. ImagXpress Photo accepts camera RAW formats and converts to 8 bits per channel for processing and saving.
• TIFF JPEG Compression Type 7
  Support full reading and user-controlled writing of TIFF JPEG Type 7 images.
• WSQ Fingerprint Decompression Added as Standard
  WSQ fingerprint decompression, formerly part of the ImagXpress v7 WSQ Add On, is now distributed with all editions of ImagXpress v8. WSQ compression remains as the ImagXpress v8 WSQ Compression Add On.

• .ANN Annotation File Format Support
  The .ANN file format is a proprietary format of TMSSequoia that was used in the ViewDirector SDK. This support is important because it offers ViewDirector customers a clear upgrade path to ImagXpress v8. NotateXpress v8 contains the ability to read and write the .ANN file format from file or buffer. NotateXpress converts annotations from .ANN to the corresponding NotateXpress type.
• Medical Annotation Data Locking
  NotateXpress v8 provides the ability to lock/unlock annotation data to the control rather than the image. This enables navigation of medical images without moving the annotations, such as patient name and ID.

• Support of Windows 95, 98, NT4, and ME Operating Systems is discontinued.
• Delphi developers are encouraged to use the included COM and .NET controls. Delphi VCL objects are no longer provided in ImagXpress toolkits.
• Updated samples and help files.
• TwainPRO for advanced TWAIN support is included in the ImagXpress Photo, Document, and Standard editions. TWAINAcquire is no longer included in ImagXpress.
• CapturePRO is no longer included with any edition of ImagXpress. It can be purchased separately.
