Q1: How can I determine if I have the latest version of a Pegasus control? |
| If you have Pegasus Imaging component products installed on your development machine, you can use PegConnect, a helpful utility installed with all Pegasus Imaging component products, to verify that you have the most current component build available. It will be accessed through the menu at Start|Programs|Pegasus Imaging|Common|Utilities as PegConnect. A PegConnect help file is also available as reference information. Use PegConnect to: 1) Check with Pegasus Imaging via online connection and verify that the installed version of the component includes all the most recent updates 2) Update to the latest ActiveX version automatically with your permission. Updating a .NET control requires that the latest component installer be run from the Products link at: http://www.pegasusimaging.com/ 3) Determine if a control is registered or unregistered on the machine 4) Easily change the registration status from registered to non-registered, or non-registered to registered If you are working on a machine on which the components have not been installed, you can download the PegConnect utility program from the following link: PegConnect or reference the Latest Builds page. |
Q2: How do I order Pegasus Imaging products? |
| Click on the Purchase tab at the top of the website or click on the "add to cart" button on each product description page. |
Q3: How may I receive phone support from Pegasus? |
| If you require phone support, it is available through the purchase of the Chariot Support Agreement or by credit card online at a rate of $40 per every 15 minute increment. If you decide to purchase “on-demand” phone support, instructions will immediately be e-mailed upon receipt of your purchase. |
Q4: What is Licensing? |
| Licensing fees are fees paid to Pegasus Imaging for the ongoing use of Pegasus Imaging products and/or technologies in applications built using Pegasus Imaging products. Not all Pegasus Imaging products require licensing. Products requiring licensing fees include a button labeled "Licensing" in their product description pages. Select this button for a description of licensing policies related to that specific product. Pegasus Imaging prides itself on very reasonable and flexible licensing schedules, and strives to follow the customers' business distribution model. Depending on how widely the application is used, licensing fees may not be incurred. We do not use counting devices. The following link contains additional information: Licensing Information |
Q5: I am running an application using a Pegasus Imaging product on Windows XP SP2 and I get a Data Execution Protection (DEP) dialog. |
| Windows XP Service Pack 2 makes several operating system improvements focused primarily on security in an effort to make computing more reliable and less prone to malicious attacks. One of the improvements includes protection against buffer overruns which are commonly associated with viruses and worms. To prevent such attacks from occurring in the future, Service Pack 2 supports hardware-based Execution Protection (NX) and software-based Sandboxing. While enforcing memory protection is good for computing overall, it does present a compatibility issue which requires resolution by software vendors throughout the world. Pegasus Imaging has tested its code on Windows XP Service Pack 2, and has found that running in this environment on the 64-bit AMD K8 and Intel Itanium hardware platforms will cause hardware protection to be triggered. Other hardware platforms do not exhibit similar behavior, and should run without issue. However, it is expected that future processor iterations made for Windows systems will have hardware protection capabilities, so migration plans should take this into account. When hardware protection is triggered, a Data Execution Protection (DEP) dialog appears and asks the user if the application should be trusted to run. This capability places the decision in the hands of the user and provides a workaround. Upon release of Windows XP Service Pack 2, Pegasus Imaging Corporation rigorously tested to ensure that current (and future) versions of its tools execute in an acceptable manner on all platforms affected by this change. The following products, in their current versions, were affected by this operating system update and have been updated to support the new requirements: ImagXpress 7 (all editions) TwainPRO 4 PrintPRO 3 NotateXpress 7 CapturePRO 3 MedXpress 2 Please use either the Pegconnect utility or our Lost Codes form on our website to get the latest version installations of Pegasus toolkits. (If you did not purchase through Pegasus but through one of our distributors, you must first use the Registration Form, and then the Lost Codes form: http://www.pegasusimaging.com/contact.htm.) ScanXpress ISIS, SmartScan Xpress Barcode, and SmartScan Xpress ICR/OCR/OMR products are not affected by this change to the operating system. ImagesASaP! does not currently support this environment and requires that the end user's runtime workaround be selected. PICVideo MJPEG Codec v3 supports this operating environment. The PICVideo Wavelet2000, PICVideo Lossless JPEG Codecs, The JPEG Wizard, PICShow, CaptureStudio and ImagePress JPEG2000 plug-in do not currently support this environment and require that the end user's runtime workaround be selected. All other Pegasus Component tools will require an update to the most current version of the particular component. (For example ImagXpress 6 users will need to upgrade to ImagXpress 7) to add support for this operating environment. All PICTools deployments will require a new set of registration codes to add support for this operating environment. |
Q6: Can I receive registration codes via e-mail and also receive a manual via regular mail? |
| No, we no longer provide paper manuals. To insure our customers always have access to the most updated support information possible, we include an electronic Help File with each product downloaded and sold. |
Q7: How can I update to the latest version of a Pegasus control? |
| Almost every Pegasus Imaging component Software Development Kit (SDK) is comprised of multiple components. When components are included in multiple SDKs, and many are, the most recently updated component (i.e. the component with the latest build date) replaces earlier components with earlier build dates. For this reason, installing these updated SDKs will make available the updated components in any SDKs using them. Use PegConnect to: 1) Check with Pegasus Imaging via online connection and verify that the installed version of the component is the latest available 2) Update to the latest ActiveX version automatically with your permission. |
Q8: Why won't GIF and LZW compressed TIFF images display in your tools? |
| The Unisys patent on LZW has now expired. To unlock LZW, use the following passwords: ImagXpress: "ifx0923g" (version 6 and previous versions used the LZWPassword unlocking, but version 7 is unlocked) ImagN: "123" ImagesASaP: unisys_lzw_enable |
Q9: I lost my original registration information. How can I receive it? |
| Please use the Lost Codes Form on our website to have the product resent to you: http://www.pegasusimaging.com/lostcodes.htm. Please note that you will need your original and current email addresses. |
Q10: Where can I download a previous version of a Pegasus product? |
| All current versions of Pegasus toolkits are available via the 'Download' link on the individual product web pages on the Pegasus web site. For all of the non-current Pegasus kits offered since 1998, please use our 'Lost Codes' form on our website and the computer will resend your registration and installation information. Please make sure to use the correct email address, both from the time of purchase, and at present, if changed. http://www.pegasusimaging.com/contact.htm If you did not purchase through Pegasus but through one of our resellers, you must first use the registration form, and then the lost codes form. Here are the final builds of many of our previous versions: ImagXpress 6 ImagXpress 7 ImagXpress 8 SmartScan Xpress Barcode v3 SmartScan Xpress Barcode v4 PDF Xpress v1 CapturePRO 2 |
Q11: When do I receive my registration codes? |
| You may choose to receive registration codes using email, or standard US Mail service. If you choose email, you will receive an e-mail containing information from our secure server which describes how to register your product(s). Typically you will receive your registration code(s) within 6 hours of the time of purchase excluding holidays and weekends, and frequently within 6 hours on those days as well. If you choose to have registration codes sent via regular mail, you will receive a packet that contains all the information needed to register your product at the mailing address you specified. The time of arrival of this packet depends on the mail option chosen by the customer. |
Q12: Can Pegasus controls be used in a multi-threaded environment and perform synchronous thread-safe processing? |
| Yes. An application using a Pegasus control can use multiple controls running in the same process, where they don't interfere with each other. The thread creating the control owns the control and is the only thread that can interact with it. |
Q13: I see that ThumbnailXpress and ImagXpress have had vulnerabilities reported on the NIST database. What does this mean? |
| This issue was addressed in an ImagXpress v8 service pack released on January 15, 2008. This Service Pack of ImagXpress v8 includes changes to the ActiveX control’s file writing behaviors when running from script in unsafe zones. This modification provides additional security measures to protect against unsanctioned file writing. Customers using the ActiveX edition of ImagXpress v8 should download this complimentary service pack. Customers using a previous version are encouraged to upgrade. |
Q14: Do you support the Visual Studio 2008 development environment and how do I obtain the updated version? |
| Pegasus Imaging conducted testing on the latest versions of our components using the released version of Visual Studio 2008. (Please see General FAQ question 1 and FAQ question 7 for helpful instructions on how to determine if you have the latest builds of Pegasus Imaging components.) Most of our currently released components ran successfully under VS 2008 and required no updates, but four components needed updates. They were ScanFix Xpress v5.1, Thumbnail Xpress v1, Barcode Xpress v5 and PDF Xpress v1. These components are included in multiple products. The updates were released as service packs during January 2008. Please download the latest builds. |
Q15: Do your controls work within Vista? |
| Yes. See the technical bulleting here. |
Q16: I have some very large files that I need to upload. Is there an FTP location that you can provide to upload the files to? |
| Please upload your files using the following steps: 1) Open file explorer and type the ftp link. ftp://ftp.jpg.com 2) You will see the anonymous access folder from the ftp server. Non-password protected. 3) Login to the ftp server by right clicking the ftp link 4) Go to the File menu, select Login As… 5) Give the user name: support and the password: 853ae90f Once you’ve successfully logged in, you can drop your files into the folder. |
